The iPad has always been in trend since its launch in 2010. It is a popular device that is widely used across the world. Apple has made the iPad more beautiful compared to the first one. But one thing which is still unchanged is the lack of a dedicated port to connect a TV. Therefore, we are here to help you connect your iPad to a TV using an Apple TV, AirPlay 2 TV, and a particular adapter. All these methods eliminate the need for an HDMI port.

Using Apple TV

You can install an Apple TV set-top box to connect your iPad to a TV. It may be a costly method for you. There are two models of an Apple TV setup box: the HD model and the 4K model. These models are compatible with AirPlay certified devices, which allows a device to connect wirelessly to another. This technology needs the same Wi-Fi connection on the devices you want to connect. Apple TV has all the things that you get on an iPad.

Moreover, if you want to duplicate the entire display on a bigger screen, you will need to mirror your iPad.

How to mirror an iPad?

  • First, you have to connect the Apple TV and iPad with the same Wi-Fi connection.
  • The TV should be connected to the right HDMI port to find the Apple TV screen.
  • Now access your iPad and open the Control Center.
  • Click on the Screen Mirroring option.
  • Click on the searched Apple TV from the pop-up menu.

Using AirPlay 2

You can connect your iPad to a TV easily using AirPlay 2. AirPlay 2 follows the 2nd generation of Apple’s proprietary technology that allows you to connect wirelessly. It also comes with iOS 11 and newer.

If we talk about the 1st generation AirPlay, it only enabled iPad and TV connectivity through Apple TV set-top box. Now the game has been completely changed. Nowadays, TV makers use the higher AirPlay 2 protocol on their televisions that means you no longer need an Apple TV set-top box or other connection tools like adapters and cables. If you want to ensure whether your TV has AirPlay 2 or not, go online and check AirPlay 2 enabled TVs.

After all, you can link your iPad to an AirPlay 2 equipped TV by following the same ways mentioned in the Apple TV part. But the additional set-top box will not come between the iPad and the TV.

Using an adapter

If you are looking for an affordable option to link your iPad to a television, it is through an adapter. As you know, tablets don’t come with HDMI ports; that is why an adapter can help you.

Three types of ports are available that allow you to connect an iPad to a TV. They are 30-pin Dock Connector, Lightning, and USB-C.

The 30-pin Dock Connectoris long and wide and is used for the first three generations of the iPad. In the beginning, it was only compatible with USB and FireWire, but Apple included video output over time. This connector is available on Amazon, but it works with iOS 9.3 or newer. Lightningis the more straightforward form of a 30-pin connector. It is small and thin in shape. You can find this adapter on Apple and Amazon. USB-Chas also entered on Apple devices. It provides high-resolution video output and charges the connected device.

Ways to connect an iPad to a TV using an adapter?

  • First, you have to connect the right adapter with the iPad.
  • Connect an HDMI cable between the adapter and TV.
  • Use the correct HDMI port on the TV to see your iPads screen.
